How to Calculate Slate Roofing Quantity (With Formula)
Accurate quantity calculation prevents both expensive over-ordering and project-stalling shortages. Here is the method we recommend to builders.
The Basic Formula
Roof area (m2) x exposure factor = slate quantity. Standard exposure for 300x200mm slate is approximately 55 pieces per square meter.
Waste Allowance
Add 5% for standard roofs, 10% for complex roofs with valleys and dormers.
Example Calculation
A 200m2 roof needs 200 x 55 = 11,000 pieces. With 10% waste: 12,100 pieces. At 22 tons per container, this is roughly one 20ft container.
